After a tremulterous few years due to covid stoppages, Futsal competitions are set to
recommence in Geelong. Geelong City Council have chosen experienced sport administrator,
Dermott Tebb to run all competitions and programs and fully support the launch of ‘Geelong
Futsal’.
Dermott Tebb holds a prestigious Asian Football Confederation Coaching Qualification and has
previously overseen the growth of Futsal in Ballarat. Under Dermott’s guidance the Ballarat club
competition now boasts over 1,000 members of all ages and abilities from 2 years old to seniors.
In addition to weekly competitons, Dermott has facilitated a pathway program which has seen 5
players reach the pinnacle of Football in Australia; the A League.
Managing Director, Dermott Tebb said “With the population of Geelong, and the appetite for the
sport here we anticipate that Geelong Futsal will quickly establish a major Futsal competition for
the region.”
Tebb said “It is great to be able to give the city another avenue to play our great sport. After a
hard time for indoor sport due to covid, it is great to see such an appetite for the game”
Futsal is Football’s (soccer) equivilant of the Big Bash. There are less players, which means more
touches per player. The games are shorter and it is guaranteed to be full of goals, tricks and
entertainment. It is also played all year round and is indoors, away from the weather.
All competitions will be held at BVAC (Barwon Valley Activity Centre) and commence in term 2
with competitions for all ages and abilities from primary school to seniors.
